Create and manage bots

A bot is an AI teammate with its own conversation, memory, and screen to work on. Start with one bot, then add more when you have work that suits different roles.

On this page

Create a bot

Choose New chat (the + in the sidebar), then Create new Bot. To name it right away, type the name in the To: field and choose Create “<name>” Bot.

A new bot greets you and asks what kind of work you want it to do. Reply with its job and how you like to work, or skip the greeting and send that first:

You're my documentation assistant. Keep explanations short, check claims against the source, and ask me when a requirement is unclear. Start by reviewing the README I attach next.

The bot remembers this for future tasks. See memory.

Give it a task

A good request says what finished work looks like. Include the files or links it needs and any limits:

Turn these meeting notes into a decision log. Include the decision, owner, and next step. Mark unknown owners instead of guessing, and attach a Markdown file.

If the task needs one of your accounts, such as Gmail or GitHub, connect a plugin . Signing in to a model provider doesn't connect your other accounts.

Follow up

Keep working in the same conversation. Tell the bot what to change and what to keep. For bigger jobs, ask it to check in with you before it makes changes you can't easily undo.

You can message a bot while it's working on something you asked for in the same chat. It reads your message right away, so you can add details or change direction mid-task. A direct message also takes priority over the bot's other chat work, such as its turn in a group chat, which runs again afterward. Routines run separately and keep going while you chat.

Change a bot's profile

Open the bot and select its name at the top of the conversation to open its Settings. You can change its avatar, name, label, and description, and turn its notifications on or off. Changes save automatically.

Organize your sidebar

Right-click a bot in the sidebar to Pin, Rename Bot, Edit Profile, Duplicate, Hide from sidebar, or Delete it. Hidden bots keep working, including their routines, but don't send notifications. Find them under Hidden Bots at the bottom of the sidebar.

Give bots names that describe their role, such as Research, Operations, or Docs. This makes them easier to tell apart in the sidebar and in group chats.

Next steps

  • Bring several bots together in a group chat.
  • Save a method that works as a skill.
  • Run recurring work with a routine.
